UW-Marathon County’s Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) is the recipient of the 2016 Inclusive Excellence and Diversity Award from the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension.
The award is presented to individuals or groups who have made an outstanding contribution to creating an inclusive and welcoming community at UW Colleges or UW-Extension by implementing an initiative in the classroom, workplace, programs or campus community that fosters relationships that advance acceptance, appreciation, respect, diversity and inclusive excellence.
UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor Cathy Sandeen presented the award to MRC faculty representatives Joanne Giordano, Kaitlyn Mahoney and Scott Sargent at the institutions’ Chancellor’s Awards Event and Reception, Sept. 22, in Madison, Other faculty, staff and student MRC leaders are Angela Bullard, Jimmy Her, Doug Hosler, Cheng Khang, Deja Mitchell, Jacob Pippenger and Jane Ritger.
The annual Chancellor’s Awards recognize UW Colleges and UW-Extension partners, supporters and employees for their outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Wisconsin.
In giving the award, Sandeen praised the Multicultural Resource Center for “offering students a supportive environment for developing leadership skills and learning about cultural diversity on campus and in the local community. These activities are especially important for new college students who are at-risk of dropping out of higher education because they provide them with a support structure on campus and encouragement from other students.”
Approximately 80 to 100 students each year participate in MRC programs and activities.
