For the second year in a row, the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents froze the tuition at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County and the 12 other two-year campuses that comprise the UW Colleges.

This means that students at UWMC will pay $4,268 annual tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year, the same amount that students paid for the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 academic years.

“This tuition freeze is extremely important for the citizens of northern and central Wisconsin,” said Sandy Smith, dean at UWMC. “It supports our commitment to keeping a UW degree accessible and affordable.

Many of our students are first generation college students, and 28% are adult students over the age of 22. Freezing the tuition is extremely important to their achieving their goal of a UW education,” Smith added.

The Regents increased tuition at the four-year campuses 5.5%, which equates to an increase of $265 at 11 UW four-year campuses, $340 at UW-Milwaukee, and $348 at UW-Madison.

UWMC is still enrolling students for summer and fall classes. For more information, call (715) 261-6235, 1-888-FOR-UWMC, email uwmc@uwc.edu , or stop in at 518 South 7th Avenue in Wausau. UWMC’s website is www.uwmc.uwc.edu .
