Why did you choose UW-Marathon County? Because it provides the transfer program to UW-Madison, and it has much lower tuition fee compared to UW-Madison.
What surprised you the most about UW-Marathon County when you arrived on campus? I am surprised by the equipment it has. For a small campus, it has fully equipped biology and chemistry labs. It also has a gym, a swimming pool, a theater and an art building. It is great to enjoy both the small classes and nice equipment.
Why did you choose your program/major? Because I participated in China High School Biology Olympiad and got the first prize in my province. During that learning process, I found my interest in biology.
What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding? I think biology is full of potential for the future. However, now it doesn’t have many job opportunities for this major, and I want to start a company that will provide more job opportunities for biology talents.
In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time? Reading books, listening to music and watching films.
Who has been your favorite professor or staff member? My favorite professor is Paul Whitaker; he is so knowledgeable and full of the energy and love for his biology research.
What do you plan to do after UW-Marathon County? Transfer to UW-Madison and achieve my bachelor’s degree. Then I will probably apply to be a graduate student in California.
What is one piece of advice you have for incoming UW-Marathon County students? Take advantage of the resources you have on this campus. Once you transfer to a four-year university, you won’t have many opportunities to get help from your professor like you do now.
