The University of Wisconsin-Marathon County Foundation will present the 7th Annual Spirit of Excellence Award to Brian Gumness on Tuesday, May 13 during a special luncheon program at 11:30 a.m. on the stage at the UW Center for Civic Engagement on the UWMC campus. Gumness is the executive director of the B.A. and Esther Greenheck Foundation.
The Spirit of Excellence Award is presented to an individual who has been a strong supporter of UWMC students and faculty over a long time.
“Brian Gumness is an alumnus who always remembered the impact UWMC had on his life and career,” said Keith Montgomery, UWMC dean and campus executive officer. “We are delighted that he is being recognized with this important honor.”
More than 70 people are expected to attend the awards program, which will also feature a keynote address by Scott Stachowiak, broadcast producer for ABC News in New York City and a UWMC alumnus.
“Brian has had a significant positive impact on the UWMC campus,” said Wayne Stretsbery, UWMC Foundation president. “He is a great example of what a UWMC alumnus can accomplish to help the campus where he started his own college career.”
Gumness is a UWMC alumnus who has maintained a strong commitment to the students and the campus. From 2007 to 2013 he was a very active member of the UWMC Foundation Board, serving as the chair of the Foundation’s Community Fund Development Committee. In that leadership role, he helped start several new marketing initiatives that raised the profile of the UWMC Foundation in the community and among alumni
The UW Center for Civic Engagement is located at 625 Stewart Ave. in Wausau. A few openings remain for the luncheon. Call UWMC Foundation Executive Director Brad Zweck at 715-261-6280 to RSVP.
