Aaron Brower to give UWMC commencement address

The University of Wisconsin-Marathon County will hold its annual commencement ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21 in the UW Center for Civic Engagement Theater, 625 Stewart Ave., Wausau. Graduates will be awarded associate of arts and science degrees.

UW Colleges Chancellor Aaron BrowerAaron Brower, interim chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Colleges and UW-Extension, will give the commencement address. He began his current position this past February and is responsible for the academic, financial, development and administrative aspects of both institutions.

UW Colleges serves almost 14,000 students and comprises 13 freshman/sophomore campuses around the state and UW Colleges Online. UW-Extension partners with 72 counties, three tribal nations and local public and private organizations to bring lifelong learning opportunities to children, youth and adults.

Previously, Brower served as interim provost and vice chancellor of UW-Extension. Prior to joining the UW-Extension, he was the vice provost for teaching and learning and a professor in the School of Social Work, Integrated Liberal Studies, and Education Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Aaron Hahn, a graduate of Mosinee High School, and Maa Vue, a graduate of Green Bay East High School, will give the student address.

A reception for graduates and their families will be held in Sonnentag Hall immediately following the ceremony. Nearly 100 students earned two-year degrees from UWMC during the 2013-14 academic year.
