TRIO Program

The TRIO Student Support Services Program is designed to serve students from
disadvantaged backgrounds and is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
TRIO provides supportive services to participating students to enhance their
potential for successfully completing their college education. To receive
assistance, students must be enrolled at UWMC. All participants must be either
low-income (eligible for financial aid), first generation college students
(parents have not graduated from a four year college), or have a physical or
learning disability. The TRIO Program is responsible for fostering a university
climate supportive of eligible students. Services offered include:
- Instruction in reading, writing, study skills, mathematics and other subjects
necessary for success in college
- Tutorial services
- Academic, financial, or personal counseling
- Exposure to cultural events
- Assistance in obtaining student financial aid
- Information on further educational opportunities
- Assistance in securing admission and financial aid
- Information on further educational opportunities
- Assistance in securing admission and financial assistance for enrollment in
graduate and professional programs
