Mission

The University of Wisconsin-Marathon County (UWMC) has been established as a center of learning, scholarship, creative arts, and cultural activity for students, faculty, staff and the community. In addition to the missions of the University of Wisconsin System and the University of Wisconsin Colleges, the Marathon County campus has the following select mission:

The Marathon County campus offers freshman-sophomore education in the liberal arts and preprofessional fields. The faculty and staff maintain a high level of research and other professional activity and form an important regional resource for economic and social development, as well as cultural enrichment.

As a gateway to higher education, the Marathon County campus serves the residents of Wausau, Marathon County, and, through its residence hall, all of north central Wisconsin.

With historical ties to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Marathon County campus continues a tradition of high standards for students, faculty, and staff. Its commitment to teaching, dedication to the pursuit of knowledge, and encouragement of creative work, together with its small size and community base, ensure a supportive and stimulating academic community.
